Happy Holidays from Piano World

It's hard to believe another year has gone by.
I started Piano World in 1996 (then called All About Pianos and hosted at something like
We've grown quite a bit over the past seventeen years. We now average over five million unique visitors a year, and our over 72,000 forums members have created over two million posts.
I've been privileged to meet a lot of really nice people, made a lot of new friends, had to say goodbye to some old ones, and got to share my love of music and all things piano with so many of you.

And now I'm lucky to have Kathy in my life to share the good times (ok, and some not so good). She loves music as much as I do, and she likes being involved in Piano World. We've moved to a beautiful spot in southwest Maine, in a home we share with Kirby (the love bug) and our new puppy Cara (see picture above).

We've quickly learned that Maine has some of the nicest, hardest working, most generous people you'll ever meet. Lots of musician's and crafts people too.

We're looking forward to continuing to do our little part to help spread the joy of playing the piano (and of making music in general). We hope you will do your part too, and please help spread the word about Piano World, we're always happy to welcome new members and guests. Maybe we'll catch up in person some day soon at a Piano Party at our house, your house, or somewhere else in the country.

Wishing you and yours a Very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Safe & Happy New Year!
Frank, Kathy, Kirby, Cara

Want to Change the Way the Forums Look?

Did you know you can change the look of the forums anytime you want?
Look near the bottom of the page (on the main landing page). You should see the following: Privacy Statement - Board Rules - Mark all Read, then you should see a drop-down menu. Choose the style you would like to see/try from the drop down, wait a minute and the forums should change to look like the new style you chose.

Dreams of the Fallen

Did you miss the live premier on November 11th?
Our own Jeffrey Biegel was the featured pianist playing a compelling new composition for piano, chorus and orchestra by award-winning composer Jake Runestad (also a member of our forums).

Combining the musical forces of solo piano, chorus, and orchestra with powerful texts written by Iraq War veteran and award-winning poet Brian Turner, the new work explores a soldier's emotional response to the experience of war.
Luckily you can still watch and listen to the concert:

PLEASE NOTE: is our online music store. It is one of the ways I bring in revenue to keep Piano World, the Piano Forums, and my family going. (Hosting fees for Piano World alone are over $6500.00 a year).

We also sell Advertising to professionals in the piano business who are smart enough to recognize the value in advertising on the world's most popular piano/keyboard site. (I'm also a piano tuner, and occasionally play gigs.)

We would appreciate your business and would be grateful if you would share the links to Piano World and with your friends and social media connections.

Are You Taking Care of Your Piano?

Piano Need Tuning? Did you know your piano should be tuned at least twice a year?
As a piano tuner I sometimes receive calls from customers who tell me they aren't sure if their piano actually needs to be tuned. Let's think about this. Have you ever watched a violinist in an orchestra? They often tune up before every piece, and they only have four strings to contend with. The average piano has about 235 strings! And how do you make music on a piano? By whacking those strings with felt wrapped devices called hammers!
Yes, your piano needs to be tuned.

And it isn't just playing that knocks your piano out of tune, changes in temperature and humidity cause all those wood components of your piano to swell and shrink, helping to stretch and shrink the string lengths, contributing to driving the piano out of tune.
Yes, your piano needs to be tuned.
